A school principal’s abuse of a student was all captured on surveillance video. He was arrested on May 11th for assaulting a young student. He was seen repeatedly hitting the student with a belt, slapping him, and holding him against his will for over an hour.
The abuse took place at Charter School Destiny Leadership Academy in Ocala, Florida, which led to the arrest of Dontay Akeem Prophet, 33, on charges of aggravated child abuse and false imprisonment of a child under thirteen. Prophet had been arrested five years ago for sexually abusing another child. This raised questions about how Prophet was able to become principal of the school.
Authorities from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a disturbance and discovered Prophet assaulting the child. Surveillance footage showed Prophet keeping the child from leaving the room, pinning him to the ground, and using a charging cable to strike him, along with other violent acts.
The Prophet claimed that he was only trying to prevent harm to the child. However, the police state that the video evidence contradicts his statement. Prophet is currently held without bond at the Marion County Jail. The identity and condition of the child have not been disclosed, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the incident.
